HOSTING A SUCCESSFUL BLOOD DRIVE
Your community’s blood supply is completely dependent on volunteer efforts…a strong
commitment from both blood donors and blood drive hosts. An outgoing, dependable blood drive coordinator is the number one key to a drive’s success.

It is essential to establish and maintain an open line of communication with your Donor
Development Coordinator (DDC). Your DDC will help you create blood donor goals, determine your blood drive type (Big Red Bus, Little Red Bus or Portable Blood Drive) and establish
appropriate dates and times to help make your blood drive a success. When in doubt, contact your DDC...we are here to help you!

A good location is a big element of success. There are many factors to consider when establishing a good blood drive location, many of which depend on the size of your blood drive (please contact your DDC for details). However, the following guidelines are true for all blood drives:
• the drive location should be highly visible, preferably in a high volume foot traffic area
• amenities such as a restroom, telephone and refreshments should be as near as possible
• as needed, reserve the desired space well in advance

Promote Your Drive! It is impossible to have a successful blood drive if nobody knows about it. Your DDC can provide you with a wide variety of custom materials to suit your environment, including posters, flyers, emails, table talkers, banners, and paycheck stuffers to name a few. Work with your DDC to determine what is best for you. Consider placing an article in your
company newsletter or even your local newspaper. Now you can make use of eDonor, our online blood drive resource with electronic sign up sheets, emails and other planning tools.
