Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC) has been asked to send
blood to patients in Haiti and on Monday supplied the first units
of blood through the Pan American Health Organization.
FBC is on standby to send additional shipments to aid the
recovery in Haiti. We are working closely with hospitals in Florida
to make sure blood is available to meet the medical needs of their
patients, including Haitians who are being treated
FBC is also donating more than $24,000 to the American Red Cross
Haiti Relief Fund as a result of our $1 Per Donor campaign in
January. We are also shipping 1,000 bottles of water, along with
food collected by FBC employees to Haiti.
The need for blood donations remains high. To ensure that we
have a reliable blood supply to support any additional shipments to
Haiti and to support our community’s needs, blood donors are
encouraged to donate as soon as possible.
